Further Road In Noisy Life, A Shortcut To Peaceful Heart
The city is an ocean wave with noise everywhere, distracting and disturbing our concentration. By mapping the city centre of Eindhoven with a sound meter,
I found that peace is not only about volume. Peaceful Island hold a relaxing atmosphere, reminding you to respect silence and provide possibilities to escape from the overwhelming city noise. Some places are quiet but not pleasant to stay, because of it's unfriendly environment, such as concrete building or construction field.
Volume is not the only important element in the creation of a soothing environment, such as a quiet alley without any greens. The standard for being a peaceful island should be carefully designed, as it includes many other contributing factors.
The project intend to link these peaceful islands in the city center together, in order to create the mindful routes, and a network. It will provides citizens an opportunity to escape from overwhelming city noise, improves city wellbeing by create a layer of silence.
Being inspired by the concept of borrowed scenery in Chinese Garden, the project is intending to mirror peace back into the noisy city. It is an alternative perspective of thinking abut wellbeing in the city by adding almost nothing visual attraction, just a space citizens could being peaceful and recharged.
By projecting peace into the city, changing perspectives and direction of focus is the center of design. It intended to provide a fresh view of the noisy city, and create a contrast, in order to attact people's attention and draw people in to appreciate the peaceful islands.
In this way, a mirror system is designed to reflect the view of the background of neglected scenes, such as the plain sky or weeds. A delicate Floating Silence Sign is designed to merge with the background, to remind people to respect the silence in a gentle but freshing tone.
